Places to Visit in Kargil Every year 26th July is celebrated as Kargil Vijay Diwas. Which is a day to honor the sacrifice of the soldiers who were martyred in the war against Pakistan. Kargil is a historical place that you must visit, so if you ever come to Kargil, then definitely see the War Memorial, as well as some other places are worth seeing.
Kargil is located in the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir. Which is especially known for the India-Pakistan war. On July 26, 1999, the Indian Army hoisted the flag of victory by driving Pakistani soldiers out of Kargil. Kargil Vijay Diwas is celebrated every year remembering the same day. This time the country is going to celebrate the 24th ‘Kargil Vijay Diwas’. Although the identity of Kargil is especially the India-Pakistan war, but there are some places here which are very beautiful. Do not miss visiting these places whenever you are here.
Located in Kargil, the Dras War Memorial has been built by the Indian Army in memory of the soldiers who lost their lives in the Kargil War in 1999. The names of the martyred soldiers in ‘Operation Vijay’ are written on the pink rocks of this War Memorial. It is also known as Vijaypath. The pink sandstone wall is the main attraction here. There is “Manoj Pandey Gallery” which shows photographs taken during that time, weapons and artillery discovered during the war. An Amar Jawan Jyoti burns continuously inside the War Memorial. There is also a theater here, in which the entire story of the Kargil war is narrated in the voice of Amitabh Bachchan.
Dras Valley
Drass, located in the Kargil district of Jammu and Kashmir state, is the coldest place in India. Which is also called the gateway of Ladakh. Dras is situated at an altitude of 10,800 feet above sea level. It is very cold here, even in summer you cannot survive here without warm clothes. In winter, the temperature here goes up to -20 degrees. From September to October, the temperature here remains around 23 degrees, so this time is the best to visit this valley.
Suru Valley
Suru Valley is a beautiful and very peaceful place. It is a different pleasure to see the natural beauty scattered all around. Suru Valley is such a place in Ladakh that you will feel like being in heaven after reaching it. About 25,000 people live in the valley, who are believed to be descendants of the Tibetan and Buddhist communities. Tourists come from far and wide to see the Suru Valley covered with snow mountains. The weather here is also very cold.
Rangdum Monastery
The Rangdum Buddhist Monastery (Gonpa), which has achieved the status of a National Monument in Zanskar, Kargil district of Ladakh, is a beautiful place to visit. Built hundreds of years ago on the Suru Valley of Zanskar, about 127 km from Kargil, this monastery is today home to monks. Which was built according to Tibetan architecture in the 18th century. Rare photographs, sculptures and manuscripts related to Buddhism are present in this monastery. The monks living in this monastery for centuries have a big role in the promotion of Buddhism in Ladakh. This monastery is like a fort built on the top of the hill at an altitude of 14436 feet. From where you will see bare hills on one side and snow-capped mountains on the other, which add to the beauty of the monastery.
