Amidst the spread of Corona virus, the religious city of Varanasi is gearing up to handle the crowds of devotees in the holy month of Sawan. With the holy month of Sawan starting on 6 July, the district administration in Varanasi has warned people that if anyone is found violating the social distance guidelines in the temple and is found to be in violation of the crowd investigation , Then the temple will be closed immediately.
In the auspicious month of Sawan, a large number of devotees throng to various temples including Kashi Vishwanath, especially Shiva temples. District Magistrate Kaushal Raj Sharma has asked the police to increase vigil around roads and temples and identify places where security protocols are being violated.
Sharma said, “If any temple is found to be congested and in violation of the rules laid down for social guidelines, then the temple will be closed immediately.” No devotee will be allowed to worship before 5 am. Wearing masks, using sanitizers and adhering to social distance norms will be mandatory.
The District Magistrate has ordered a two-hour campaign against those who violate the security guidelines. Officers have been directed to create awareness among the public to prevent the spread of the virus through police or rented vehicles. In order to prevent infection due to overcrowding, it has been decided to sanitize the premises and surroundings of all the temples of Varanasi every 6 hours. (With agency input)
